This song has been running through my head quite a bit these past couple of weeks. It could be that I’m in a particular mood lately (see last Monday’s post), or it could be I’ve been listening to a lot of the Grateful Dead’s 1976 summer tour, where this song was in the rotation quite a bit. Whatever the case, it’s firmly lodged in my brain, so here’s The Wheel, video complete with obligatory spinning hippies and appropriate intergalactic imagery.
I like the sense of inevitability this song conveys, though as someone in my
midlate 40s, that’s not necessarily comforting! Time marches on, whether we want it to or not, a point made a bit by the pounding drum. I’ve always liked these early versions of the song, with that lazy, liquid guitar that sort of floats over and above the more insistent rhythm section.
Well, I’ve run on more than enough here. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Last week, Bonnee Crawford tagged me for a Liebster Award–zip on over to her blog to see how she answered the questions, and what sort of torture she has in store for her victims. I’ll give it some thought and save it for another time. Enjoy your week!
That guitar really is awesome! Enjoy the week 🙂
You're a dead head! Actually, I'd never heard that song before, but I get what it's like to get a certain song stuck in your head that just fits the vibe you're feeling that week. I always just play the heck out of the song until it works its way out of my system when that happens.
It's not about how old you are, it's how young you feel! 🙂 (easy for me to say, right?)
Looking forward to your answers!
Isn't it odd how a song can get in your brain and not let go? That happens to me all the time! lol
-Jemi–it is, isn't it? And I will, thank you very much!
L.G.–I thought that fact was painfully obvious to anyone! The song is still stuck. I'm listening to it now!
Bonnee–Thanks, whippersnapper. And we'll see how long it takes me to get to that Liebster.
Lexa–At least it's a song I like, and not something like 'Friday'.
My apologies if I just got 'Friday' stuck in your heads. If anyone remembers that one at all, even though it's just a couple of years old.
